• Consistent guidance and feedback

  St. Luke’s Fellows learn the craft of teaching over two years under the guidance of the Fellows Director and their Department Chair.  Fellows will teach a reduced course load while receiving regular instruction and support--pedagogical support from the Fellows Director, and content support from the Department Chair. The Fellows have a weekly meeting with the cohort as well as a one-on-one meeting with the Fellows Director to create lesson plans, design assessments, provide student feedback, and ensure an equitable, engaging, and inspiring classroom environment. To that point, weekly observations give Fellows the most targeted and constructive feedback possible.

• Opportunities to connect with students beyond the classroom

  Each Teaching Fellow is partnered with an experienced teacher to co-advise a group of 6-8 students. Fellows also participate in all three seasons of co-curricular activities after school, through coaching sports, theatre arts, publications, or speech and debate. This relationship outside of the classroom enables Fellows to pursue personal interests, practice effective leadership skills, and allows students to see Fellows as role models. Fellows may also provide one-on-one tutorial support for students in structured periods each week.

• Ongoing professional development

  Aside from the weekly in-house professional development, a distinctive feature of the St. Luke’s Fellows Program is the rich professional development component. Teachers grow through reflection and deliberate practice, as well as through expanding their horizons by attending professional development outside of the school walls. Fellows attend two professional development experiences as a cohort:

  
  

  The New England New Teachers Seminar (one week summer workshop) 

  The New England New Teacher Seminar 2.0 (three-day summer workshop in second year)

  
  

  On-going professional development in technology is provided by our Academic Technology Department. Each Fellow is paired up with an Academic Technologist to help design, implement, and reflect on innovative technology projects in their classroom. Through bi-weekly meetings, Fellows receive training that has a direct and profound impact on student learning. 

  
  In the second year, each Fellow selects a professional development experience of their choice. This might be something in their subject area or another area of interest that pertains to their teaching. Also in the second year, Fellows will work closely with the Center for Leadership, a distinguishing signature program of the school. With mentorship by CFL staff, they will learn to design and deliver a co-curricular program that helps every student to develop their own unique leadership abilities - including training in public speaking, team leadership development, and service-learning pedagogy.

• Assistance during job search

  St. Luke’s provides extensive guidance on completing a job search in education including bringing a professional recruiter to campus, financial support to attend a job fair, and mock interviews by a panel of in-house administrators. Additionally, with structured support from Academic Technologists, Fellows will create and maintain an online portfolio/resume that showcases best practices, video clips of teaching, and features student projects.

• Competitive annual salary and full benefits

  Fellows receive an annual salary of $50,000 and full benefits including health care. Teaching Fellowships are available in the following subject areas, dependent on need in any given year:
